Avoiding CV Mistakes

Most people make mistakes when they create their CV. Strangely however, the vast majority of people think their CVs are error free. These same people are then astonished when they get their CV checked out and discover just how many mistakes have made and find out just how many improvements can be made.

The most obvious mistakes are spelling and grammar. It is surprising just how many CVs include spelling and grammar faults. It is a mistake to think that an employer will not spot your mistakes. Mistakes show a lack of thoroughness and this alone could cost you your job.

At the very least you should spell check your CV, and also check for grammatical errors. If you use software such as Microsoft word then the software can check spelling and grammar for you. Other common mistakes include more than just spelling and grammar, but also content, wording, direction presentation, format and much more.  Most people are surprised to see just how many pitfalls there actually are.

It is always worth spending an hour or two examining your CV to try to find areas for improvement. If you do this the chances are that you will make some improvements, but unless you really do know what you are looking for, there may still be errors and areas which need improving.

Alternatively, you can buy a CV advice book and check out some tips. However, this is not foolproof. Arguably the best way to avoid mistakes is to get expert advice on your CV, or even get it written for you.  If you choose to do this it will not only save you time, but could also be a great investment. Indeed, the cost of the service could be recouped in your first improved packet. At MyUxbridge Jobs, you can get your CV reviewed absolutely free! Click here for more information.

The biggest mistake of all is to send off your CV to employers before it has been rectified, because if you do so you are not only wasting your time and effort, but you may just miss out on the job of your dreams. The best advice is always to get your CV if not written, then at the very least checked out by a professional before you send it off. After all, once you have sent it you will not get a second chance to send another.
