Enfield 26384: Our client seeks an experienced debt recovery officer for an assignment within the temporary accommodation department of its housing services division.

We are acting for a Middlesex based local authority

The post will be located in Enfield, EN1 and will be for 36 hpw, Mon-Fri, normal business hours.

This is anticipated to be, initially at least, a 3 month assignment.

Please note that under a special arrangement we have with a leading umbrella company, temps who elect to get paid under this route will receive, in addition to a higher hourly rate of pay, the following benefits which are not available under PAYE:

Essence of role:

1 To correspond with former tenants of Temporary Accommodation using recovery action letters and update computer records with former account details.

2 To have an understanding of the London Borough of Enfield housing and homeless initiative and policy.

3 To advise debtors of the various methods of payment and agree arrangements to repay. This process involves negotiation in setting up agreements, (amending existing agreements if the tenant has a change in circumstances), and standing orders, which entails liaising with banks and building societies on the tenant’s behalf.

4 To maintain responsive, courteous and effective communication skills in all dealings with customers of the Council. This includes former tenants’ enquiries on the telephone, responding to personal callers, office interviews, written enquiries and visits to the tenant’s place of residence.

5 Investigate and calculate former tenant’s accounts by compiling detailed written breakdown of arrears, recommending adjustments where necessary, (e.g.: to Housing Benefits). Arrangements of refunds and/or arrange the transfer of balances to current accounts, other rent or Council Tax accounts appropriate, (obtaining tenant written consent where necessary).



Candidate requirements (*below indicates a requirement that must be CLEARLY EVIDENT FROM YOUR CV, not just your covering letter, to avoid auto-rejection by client):

*UK debt recovery experience within a large organisation

*You must have a working knowledge of UK welfare benefits

UK local authority or other public sector experience useful, but not essential.

Any housing services related experience an obvious bonus and could usefully be stated on your CV
